← All GuidesWhat's the actual difference between a mastermind and an executive peer advisory board?
A mastermind typically trades mostly in conversation and loose accountability. A structured peer advisory board is built around real access, consistent accountability, and members who are genuinely further along or at the same operating scale.
Many masterminds are organized around a topic or a personality, with membership open to a wide range of business sizes and stages, which can dilute the specificity of the advice and the credibility of the room.
A more structured peer group is intentionally curated: similar revenue range, similar operating complexity, and often a specific industry focus, so the challenges being discussed are ones every person in the room has actually faced.
The difference shows up most clearly in what members walk away with. Conversation and camaraderie are valuable, but real access, to deals, introductions, and hard-won specifics, is what separates a group that feels good from one that actually moves the business forward.
